DEWALT Automotive Power Tools
In 1924, Raymond DeWalt developed a multiconfigurational woodworking machine. Since then, the DEWALT name has grown to include dozens of corded and cordless power tools and accessories for other purposes, such as automotive maintenance. The DEWALT corporation designs tools to meet the toughest job site requirements. What is a brushless power tool?
Many DEWALT handheld power tools, both corded and cordless, have brushless motors. These have a synchronous motor powered by direct current. Tools with brushless motors are powerful and generate increased torque because they lose little energy to friction as they work. This means that they have as much power when the battery is fully charged as they do when it is almost empty. What kinds of cordless automotive tools does DEWALT make?
- Cordless screwdrivers: A cordless screwdriver is intended specifically for driving screws and tends to operate at lower speeds and with less torque than a drill to avoid overtightening.
- Impact drivers: An impact driver exerts force in a circular manner to tighten or loosen nuts and bolts.
- Hammer drills: A hammer drill channels the force directly into the bit, much like a jackhammer.
- Gyroscopic screwdrivers: The DEWALT 8V MAX Gyroscopic Screwdriver integrates gyroscopic technology to provide precise control of speed and direction of torque. Depress the trigger and twist the screwdriver in whichever direction you want the bit to turn. Twist the tool clockwise and it drives screws and tightens nuts. Twist the tool counter-clockwise and it removes screws and loosens nuts. It also allows the user to switch between a straight "in-line" grip and a more compact pistol grip.
The term XR stands for "eXtended Runtime" and refers to the DEWALT MAX line of tools using Lithium-Ion batteries. The Li-Ion battery packs offer both extended runtimes and enhanced application speeds, be it a saw, drill, or beyond. The DEWALT XR line is also designed to be lightweight and ergonomic. What are the advantages of Lithium-Ion batteries?
Li-Ion batteries are energy dense. This allows more power to be stored in smaller batteries, giving tools and equipment greater power and longer runtimes. They also have a very limited self-discharge, giving them a long shelf life. Can Lithium-Ion packs be used in older tools?
Some Li-Ion packs are backward compatible and will work with older tools that originally used nickel-cadmium. DEWALT cordless tools are designed to accept only packs that will work safely with that particular tool or kit. If the pack clicks into place, it will work just fine.
