Bike Evolution: Forks for BMX Bike MM Suspension Travel

Bike technology is ever-evolving and changing. The bikes you rode during spring break in your childhood are not the same ones you ride today. Bicycle parts have been upgraded for better, more efficient cycling experiencesy. Bike front forks, for instance, now come in better designs and are compatible with most bikes. A clear understanding of these bike parts is important.

What are the parts of a BMX bike front fork?

A bike front fork is made up of many parts:

  • The crown: This is the cross brace holding the two legs together below the head tube of your bike frame. Bikes can be single crown models or double crown models. A long-travel downhill bike has dual crown forks. The second brace on this bike is at the top of the head tube for added stiffness.
  • Steerer tube: This is the fork upper tube that goes into the head tube. They are mostly made of alloy. However, you can find steel and carbon fiber steerer tubes. For efficiency, ensure that you use steerer tubes that fit well into your head tube.
  • Spring: Springs come in two variations, air springs and metal coil springs. Air springs are light and easily adjustable depending on the rider's needs. Metal springs, on the other hand, are less flexible.
  • Axle: Forks come with axles that slide through the hub and screw into the leg fork. If you are thinking of upgrading your fork, consider getting a through-axle.
  • Damping: This is the valve circuit that the hydraulic oil is pushed through as the fork compresses and rebounds. This may produce heat energy.
What type of BMX bike front forks are available?

There are different ways of categorizing bike front forks. When categorized according to systems of fork attachment, the forks come in two variations. Threaded forks are screwed onto the bike using a single bolt. They can easily be adjusted since all you need to do is screw or unscrew the bolt.

Threadless-ahead forks use two stem bolts to be fastened onto the frame.

What are the features of BMX bike front suspensions?

More often than not, riders lean to the front while riding, putting more weight on the bike's front. The front suspension is designed to take on much of the rider's weight. A bike front suspension is made up of stanchion tubes that slide in and out of the outer tube. They are joined with a brace.

The front wheel of your bike is attached to the fork lowers while the inner tubes are attached to the head tube of a bike frame through a fork steer. A fork may also have a damper that controls how the air springs work. The air spring is compressed air that acts as springs.

What are the parts of a suspension travel bike frame?

The main part of a bike is the frame. It is the core of the bike and provides attachment points that make up the whole bike unit. The frame is often made up of materials such as steel, aluminum, titanium, or carbon fiber. The parts of a bike frame include:

  • Bottom bracket
  • Seat tube
  • Down tube
  • Seat stays
  • Head stays
  • Chain stays

The frame attached to a fork is called a frameset.
