GMC Acadia Tailgates and Liftgates

Tailgates and liftgates are a functional way to maximize the space in your GMC Acadia when you need to move or deliver items in your SUV. They are easy to install, and since they are placed inside the vehicle, they are protected from the weather. By using tailgates and liftgates on your GMC Acadia, youll make loading, transporting, and unloading cargo easier and faster.

Whats the difference between a tailgate and a liftgate?

Liftgates are extra closures at the back of a vehicle that can mechanically be raised and lowered to load and unload cargo youre transporting. Tailgates are hinged hatches or boards, also at the rear of the vehicle, that can be lowered down to load and unload transported goods or items.

What are the liftgate and tailgate features?
  • Appliques: These are panels at the rear of your GMC Acadia that can be made from plastic, chrome, titanium, and more. Some include a license plate light.
  • Control module: These are receivers for remote commands such as convenient, key-free entry.
  • Gate switch: It detects that the gate is closed.
  • Latches: Catch and lever utilities close your rear tailgate or liftgate.
  • Liftgates: These can be powered or not and come in various colors with or without window glass. They may or may not include lights, trim, or hinges.
  • Liftgate cameras: Small, low-profile cameras that are easily installed horizontally or vertically make navigating traffic and parking when transporting goods easier and safer.
  • Outer handle assembly: An outer handle for your liftgate or tailgate usually includes any wiring or components necessary for function.
  • Power lift actuator assembly: Hydraulic actuators are completely self-contained with their own fluid store.
  • Rear emblem name plate: These decorative panels have an Acadia emblem plate for your rear vehicle panel.
  • Support struts: These are easy-to-install supports for your rear closure.
  • Support strut mounts: Strut mounts support the liftgate and help insulate the closure against vibrations and noise from the vehicle.
  • Tailgates: The actual gates, in various colors, come with or without window glass. They may or may not include lights, trim, or hinges.
  • Wiring harness: Wiring harnesses are assemblies of electrical cables or wires that send power or electronic signals for the operation of the liftgate on your GMC Acadia.
How do you adjust the Acadias liftgate height?

  • Push the liftgate control button to open the gate.
  • Once the gate comes to a stop, manually adjust it to open less or more.
  • Once the desired arrangement is achieved, press and hold the gates button at the edge of the gate itself until the hazard lights on your vehicle flash.
